Pneumonia and Influenza Mortality -- United States, 1988-89 Season

The proportion of deaths associated with pneumonia and influenza (P&I) reported from 121 U.S. cities has now exceeded the epidemic threshold for 3 successive weeks (from the week ending January 28 through the week ending February 11). Seventy- eight percent of the P&I deaths reported have occurred in persons greater than or equal to65 years of age.
