The figure above is a map of the United States showing that during 2014–2016, 8%26#37; of U.S. adults aged 18–64 years had current asthma. Current asthma prevalence was highest in New Hampshire (12.7%26#37;), Vermont (12.3%26#37;), Arizona (11.0%26#37;), Kentucky (10.8%26#37;), and Maine (10.8%26#37;). The prevalence was lowest in Hawaii (4.9%26#37;), North Dakota (5.7%26#37;), Arkansas (5.9%26#37;), South Carolina (6.2%26#37;), and North Carolina (6.2%26#37;).

* Current asthma is based on positive responses to the survey questions “Have you ever been told by a doctor or other health professional that you had asthma?” and “Do you still have asthma?”

Estimates are based on household interviews of a sample of the civilian, noninstitutionalized, U.S. adult population and are shown for sample adults aged 18–64 years.
